Vojta Therapy

What is Vojta?

Vojta (“voy-ta”) therapy is popular in Europe as a rehabilitation treatment to stimulate amd rehabilitate the deep muscle systems of the spine and extremities.  Originally developed by Czech pediatric neurologist Vaclav Vojta to treat cerebral palsy, but has since been developed to include a wide variety of conditions.  Vojta involves a system of analysis for babies and toddlers up to 18 months of age allowing you to gauge key body developments (rolling, crawling, walking) in your child.  This important analysis is rarely if ever performed at your pediatrician’s office but is common in Europe.

Who can benefit?

Although Vojta can be used in the classic orthpaedic rehab program, it also has unique benefits to the following conditions:

Cerebral Palsy

Spine pain and Scoliosis

Multiple Sclerosis

Stroke

Spinal Cord Injuries

Mental Disorders

How is it different?

Vojta is different from more popular treatment programs (bobath, feldenkreis, surgical options) because it follows the physiological principles of development.  The analysis combines postural reactions, spontaneous motor development, and normal reflexes to guide treatment in a step-wise fashion for lasting functional changes.

Vojta therapy is a passion of Dr. Deppen.  If you know anyone who you think may benefit he would love to work with them!
